The Dallas Morning News is seeking an ambitious, hard-charging reporter to cover fast-growing Collin County.
This reporter will focus on the booming county just north of Dallas, home to The Star (Dallas Cowboys World Headquarters) and a growing Asian population. Coverage will include cities like Plano, Frisco, and McKinney, as well as municipalities with significant population growth such as Melissa, Princeton, and Anna.
The role emphasizes development, community issues, and government accountability. We seek a reporter eager to engage deeply with these communities, understanding their culture and people.
Stories should have impact, drive change, and highlight trends and issues. The team produces breaking news, enterprise, and accountability stories, requiring comfort with FOI requests and community engagement.
The candidate must be skilled at independent story discovery and multitasking, with collaboration across the newsroom encouraged for long-term projects.

Responsibilities include daily beat stories, enterprise, and accountability reporting. The role involves community news, records requests, and coverage aligned with our focus on quality of life in North Texas. Night and weekend work may be required.
Preferred skills include social media use, basic photo editing, fast-paced storytelling, remote work capability, platform-specific writing, SEO knowledge, and teamwork.
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field, a strong news sense, excellent communication and analytical skills, ability to meet deadlines, and a valid driver's license with vehicle.
The role offers a hybrid schedule: three days in the office (Tue-Thu) and two remote days in downtown Dallas.
