Job summary

Washington County Community College is seeking a dedicated Campus Safety & Security Officer to maintain a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. Duties include patrolling campus buildings and grounds, monitoring security systems, completing daily activity and incident reports, and coordinating with local authorities when needed.

The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 2:30 pm to 11:30 pm, with flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Criminal Justice or closely related field required.
  • Up to two years experience in law enforcement, campus safety, or related public safety field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, work independently, and protect confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of security operations, emergency procedures, and de-escalation techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol campus buildings and grounds to ensure safety and security.
  • Monitor security systems and secure facilities.
  • Complete daily activity and incident reports.
  • Conduct inspections and monthly facility audits.
  • Promote safety via training and after-hours escorts.
  • Coordinate with local police and fire authorities when needed.
  • Respond to incidents, investigate violations, and de-escalate conflicts.
  • Assist with security at special events and inspections.
  • Serve as liaison for SafetyWorks and OSHA inspections.
  • Participate in the College Safety Committee.

COLLEGE SAFETY & SECURITY OFFICER

Washington County Community College is seeking a dedicated and professional Campus Safety & Security Officer to join our team. The officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors by patrolling campus buildings and grounds, monitoring security systems, securing facilities, completing daily activity reports and incident reports as needed. Duties also include conducting inspections and monthly audits of campus facilities, promoting crime prevention and safety awareness through training and after-hours escorts, and coordinating with local police and fire authorities when necessary. The officer responds to violations, investigates complaints and disturbances, de-escalates conflicts, and responds to critical incidents. Additional responsibilities include assisting with security at special events, serving as liaison for SafetyWorks and OSHA inspections, and actively participating in the College Safety Committee.

The regular schedule is M-F 2:30pm-11:30pm and the position requires flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends, as required.

Salary & Benefits

This position is classified within the MSEA bargaining unit at Range 12, with an anticipated hourly rate ranging from $20.53 to $22.25, based on qualifications and relevant experience.

Minimum Qualifications
  • an associate degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field is required, along with up to two years of experience in law enforcement, campus safety, security, or a related public safety field, preferably in a higher education environment
  • demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other standard computer applications, as well as strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment
  • must be self-motivated, dependable, and capable of making appropriate decisions while working with minimal supervision and in accordance with established policies, procedures, and applicable laws
  • working knowledge of security operations, safety standards, emergency response procedures, and conflict de-escalation techniques is required
  • ability to respond calmly and effectively during emergencies, build positive relationships with students, employees, and visitors, and consistently promote a safe and secure campus environment is essential
