Job summary

Excellus BCBS is seeking a Summer College Intern to gain hands-on experience in enterprise software deployment and modern endpoint management. You will work on real projects under mentors, learning to package applications, manage devices, and support patching and Intune deployments.

You will explore Windows 11 administration, PowerShell scripting, and SCCM/MECM workflows while contributing to team initiatives and gaining exposure to flexible work arrangements and a professional environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Support deployment, maintenance, and lifecycle management of enterprise software.

• Assist MECM/SCCM activities: collections, deployments, content distribution.
• Engage in patch management and Intune-based deployment initiatives.

The Summer College Internship Program is a 10-week paid internship experience that provides undergraduate and graduate students with the opportunity to attend development workshops, network, and be part of our company. Our college interns work on meaningful projects, are mentored under their respective managers, and continue to develop throughout the entire summer. Through the internship program, our interns can attend development workshops that are focused on key business concepts. Interns may work within the skills-based tracks of Business Administration, Information Technology, Actuarial, Human Resources, Analytics & Data, Communications, Finance, Marketing & Sales, Project Management, Clinical Studies, Customer Experience, Digital Operations, and other non-technical and/or technical based degree programs.

• This is a paid 10-week summer internship from the first Monday in June to the second Friday in August (up to 40 hours per week).
• Interns may reside in either a technical or non-technical area.
• Development workshops are provided to help with the transition from school to the corporate environment.

Essential Accountabilities

• Specific duties will vary by assignment; specific divisional callouts are listed below.
• The intern will be assigned day-to-day responsibilities within the End User Computing team, supporting the deployment, maintenance, and lifecycle management of enterprise software and devices. The primary objective of this internship is to provide hands-on experience with software packaging, application deployment, operating system management, and modern device management technologies while contributing to ongoing team initiatives and projects.
• The intern will work closely with senior engineers to learn and assist with the creation, testing, troubleshooting, and deployment of software packages utilizing various installation technologies, including MSI, MSIX, EXE, and vendor-specific installers. Responsibilities will include validating silent installation parameters, create installation and uninstall commands, generating deployment logs, documenting package requirements, and troubleshooting application installation issues in enterprise environments.
• A significant portion of the internship will focus on Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM/SCCM). The intern will gain experience creating and managing device collections, building and configuring software applications, distributing content to distribution points, monitoring deployments, and assisting with application lifecycle management. The intern will also participate in testing and validation activities to ensure successful software deployments across the enterprise.
• The internship will also provide exposure to patch and vulnerability management processes. The intern will assist with Microsoft operating system updates, third-party application patching, and Dell BIOS and driver update deployments. Responsibilities may include reviewing vendor release notes, testing updates in non-production environments, monitoring deployment compliance, analyzing deployment results, and helping document remediation actions for failed installations.
• In addition, the intern will be introduced to Microsoft Intune and modern endpoint management practices. The intern will learn how applications, configuration profiles, compliance policies, and updates are deployed through Intune. They will assist with packaging and publishing applications, monitoring deployment status, and supporting co-management initiatives between MECM and Intune.
• Performs other functions as assigned by management.

Project work throughout the summer will be aligned with the team's strategy of improving endpoint security, software deployment efficiency, patch compliance, and modern device management capabilities. Potential projects may include application packaging standardization, patch compliance reporting, deployment automation, software inventory analysis, Intune application deployment optimization, and endpoint management process documentation.

• Works with a mentor and supports key strategic projects.
• Completes work assignments based on business needs, departmental priorities, and individual qualifications.
• Performs a mix of technical and/or non-technical tasks that will cover a broad range of business-related projects.
• Creates and delivers presentations at completion of internship.

Minimum Qualifications

• Desired Majors/Degree Programs Include: Computing Sciences & Information Technology (i.e. Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT Networking, Cybersecurity, etc.) or similar program(s)
• Preferred (but not required) experience with: Windows 11 Operation System (administration or power user experience), PowerShell Scripting. The ideal intern will have a strong interest in endpoint management, systems administration, software deployment technologies, and automation. While the intern will be expected to learn from experienced team members, we also value fresh perspectives and new ideas. We encourage the intern to share innovative approaches, emerging technologies, and best practices that can contribute to continuous improvement within the team and organization.
• High School diploma along with proof of continuous college enrollment (enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program).
• Must be in good academic standing.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to interact with technical and non-technical audiences and interface with staff at all levels of the company.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong attention to detail changing environment and deliver high-quality work product.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work while sitting and/or standing at a workstation viewing a computer and using a keyboard, mouse and/or phone for three (3) or more hours at a time.
• Ability to travel across the Health Plan service region for meetings and/or training courses as needed.
