Job summary

RK&K, a full-service engineering and construction management firm, is seeking a part-time Transportation Design Intern to join our Highways team in Philadelphia, PA. You will gain hands-on experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD while contributing to roadway and pedestrian facility designs.

As an intern, you will work on projects across the mid-Atlantic region, perform field data collection, assist with traffic control plans, cost estimating, and collaborate with a team of transportation

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Civil Engineering degree.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Work on roadway, bicycle and pedestrian facilities and maintain traffic/construction zones.

Job description

RK&K is hiring a part-time Transportation Design Intern to join our Highways team in our Philadelphia, PA office. As an Intern in our Highways Department at RK&K, you will receive on-the-job training, work alongside, and collaborate closely with one of the largest, most talented groups of transportation engineering professionals in the industry. In this role, you will gain experience using MicroStation and/or AutoCAD software. You will gain insight and experience into the steps required to develop designs for linear transportation projects that may include new roadways, roadway extensions, pedestrian / bike facilities, traffic calming, and intersection safety improvements. You will be exposed to design challenges and will complete tasks both in the office and in the field as needed.

Basic Functions

• Work on projects throughout the mid-Atlantic region including field data collection, design of roadway, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, maintenance of traffic / construction work zones, corridor planning, cost estimating and collaborating with team members to develop creative solutions to complex challenges.

Required Skills and Experience

• Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering
• Proficient knowledge ofMicrosoft Office products(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Self-motivated with a strong attention to detail
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
• Excellent written andoral communicationskills
• Valid driver’s license

Preferred Skills And Experience

• Participation in professional societies (ASCE, ASHE, etc.)
• Applicable prior intern (Co-Op) experience
• Basic knowledge ofAutoCAD,MicroStationand/orGIS
