(Job #547354) Student Services Professional II (SSP II), College Based Pathway Coordinator, Salary Range: $5,083 - $7,228; Hiring Range: $5,083 – 5,337 . This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, 12-month pay plan with a one-year probationary period in RAMP. This position comes with a premium benefits package that includes outstanding vacation, medical, dental, and vision plans, life insurance, voluntary pre-tax health and dependent care reimbursement accounts, a fee waiver education program, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), and 14 paid holidays per year. Position Summary

Under the work lead direction of the Senior Lead Coordinator for RAMP, this position is responsible for the day-to-day management, oversight, mentor support, and coordination of an academic mentorship program which serves approximately 700+ new transfer students (College Based Pathway, Retention through Academic Mentoring Program [RAMP]). In addition, the position is responsible for managing multiple clerical aspects of supporting the mentors (hiring paperwork, in-house and university monthly time sheets, required CSU trainings, etc.) as well as assisting in organizing large-scale events related to the program, and assisting the Senior Lead Coordinator in tracking needs for the program.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Mentoring Program

  • Manage day-to-day operations of an academic mentorship program for approximately 700+ new transfer students
  • Create and manage resources for mentors through RAMP Canvas site
  • Contribute to the construction of Spring and Fall Mentor Education Curricula and associated tasks
  • Monitor emerging needs of RAMP staff and how they inform future and/or immediate programmatic decisions.
  • Contribute to on-going program development as relates to emerging partnerships with other units across campus
  • Organize large-scale events
  • Assess & track activities related to in-house program evaluation
  • Contribute to assessment of the program to ensure meeting programmatic objectives

Lead Work Direction

  • Support 25-30 academic mentors during the academic year
  • Weekly meetings with RAMP Lead mentors
  • Monthly meetings with each mentor
  • Serve as main resource for answering immediate questions, areas of concern, areas of celebration as presented by RAMP Lead Mentors and RAMP Mentors
  • In collaboration with the First Year Pathway Coordinator, support and serve an additional 90 spring mentors participating in mentor education (Feb-April)
  • Coordinate and monitor communication (email, text) with all mentors and those participating in spring mentor education.
  • Create weekly agendas for Leadership Meetings (Sr. Lead Coord., CB Coordinator, Lead Mentors) and "Pod" meetings (subset meetings of RAMP staff)
  • Conduct bi-annual evaluations of each Lead Mentor with the Sr. Lead Coordinator
  • Contribute to weekly agendas for all RAMP staff meeting
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of mechanisms for recruiting applicants for RAMP positions in fall semester
  • In collaboration with the First Year Coordination organize the entire selection and interview process each spring semester.
  • Design on-line feedback mechanisms to gather evaluations of RAMP from transfer students and mentors
  • Hold regular meetings with the Sr. Lead Coord. to discuss mentorship and academic initiatives.

Cross-Campus Partnerships

  • Collaborate with the Centers for Academic Excellence, Educational Opportunity Program, Academic Career and Advising Center, Learning Center
  • Create communication plan for collaborating with campus partners for recruitment, mentor education and collaboration
  • Serve as liaison to associate deans and/or faculty participating in CB
  • Represent the department by serving on university committees as opportunities present themselves
  • Maintaining relationships with staff and faculty partners that participate in student facing projects

Administrative

  • Confirm required paperwork and training is in place regarding Required Reporter and CSU requirements
  • Coordinate process for mentors acquiring access to PeopleSoft
  • Manage and monitor weekly and monthly processing of mentor time sheets
  • Contribute to the development and revisions of paper and online published program materials

Other Duties As Assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Associated with this Position Include:

Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management.

General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.

Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations;

use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements as they relate to the program; obtain factual and interpretive information through interviews;

reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data to stakeholders in support of and participants in the program; advise student staff individually and in groups on procedural matters where required, as well as guide the student personnel in effective problem-solving as it relates to serving middle year students; recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi-aged value systems and work accordingly; understand the roles and responsibilities of others and to gauge relationships accordingly by taking into account the variety of the interrelationships, motivations and goals of the members of the organization served; effective interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.

In addition, a general knowledge of the personal, social, and academic challenges encountered by college students; working knowledge of current issues and trends in higher education; an understanding of student development, cultural identity development models, leadership development theories, and social justice action continuum; a familiarity with the principles of community development; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned.

Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity addressing issues of concern facing students from diverse backgrounds in higher education.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience & Education:

Possession of the knowledge and abilities associated with this position is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field; additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and equity in higher education.
  • Experience in program development, and implementation, as well as in oversight of office functions and expenditures.
  • Ability to connect with students from their own lived experiences in a self-reflective and critical manner.
  • Experience overcoming barriers similar to those confronting Humboldt’s student population of low-income, first-generation college students.
  • Demonstrated experience and effectiveness working with first-generation students and/or students identifying as Black, Indigenous People of Color in a higher education setting.
  • Experience working with RAMP or other student services programs in the higher education settings.
  • The ability to foster and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse student, staff, faculty, and community members; and establish and maintain effective, cooperative and harmonious working relationships in circumstances which involve the denial of request or the necessity to persuade others to accept a different point of view.
