The Division of Transportation Planning and Management (TPM) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living, working, and doing business in New York City. The Division’s responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility and markings, ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists.
The Public Engagement Group / Street Ambassadors unit is a critical outreach support team for the TP&M Division. This unit is vital to the agency's public engagement strategy. The Ambassadors provide capacity for public input in the development of Street Improvement Projects (SIPs) and support project-based outreach and public awareness goals.
The Public Engagement Group seeks a motivated college intern to support visual storytelling, content development, and digital asset organization. This role offers hands-on experience in civic communications and contributes to public engagement projects across the city.
Under the guidance of the Communications Design Lead, the college aide will support documenting community outreach, producing creative assets, and streamlining systems. Ideal candidates are creative, detail-oriented, love photography, and are eager to learn, thriving in collaborative environments.
The role includes photography, videography, writing, design, editing, and learning new creative skills.
17 hours/week during school; 35 hours/week during breaks.

For Assignment Level I: Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school; employment conditioned on ongoing student status.
For Assignment Level II (IT): Same as Level I, with a focus on IT-related coursework (9 semester credits).
For Assignment Level III (IT Fellow): Same as Level I, with relevant coursework in IT and a 9-credit requirement; appointments made by the Technology Steering Committee.
Maximum tenure is 6 years. Students can work full-time during vacations but not more than half-time during the semester.
Eligible for federal and state loan forgiveness programs. Residency in NYC is generally required within 90 days of employment, with some exceptions.
