Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The NYC Department of Transportation's Ferry Division seeks a College Aide for the Human Resources Unit. Under direct and general supervision of the Personnel Coordinator, the College Aide will perform analytical and administrative work to assist the Personnel Coordinator of the Staten Island Ferry. The selected candidate will receive hands on training in the City's recruiting, hiring, and onboarding processes. Tasks that the College Aide can expect to do at the Staten Island Ferry include but are not limited to: drafting job postings, reviewing resumes, reviewing and drafting interview and hiring packages. The candidate will also be involved in drafting and revising division SOPs and Org Charts. The ideal candidate should be able to work both independently and as part of a team. Preference will be given to candidates with strong quantitative, analytical, technical and communication skills. Any experience with Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.

EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL TASKS:
Assists with research on the preparation of specifications of job postings and on projects connected with the hiring of personnel. Prepares final/completion reports for projects. Assists with planning and scheduling of interviews of candidates for positions; prepares paperwork for interviews. Performs light filing, copying, and office organization.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
TWIC REQUIREMENT: Once selected for employment at the Staten Island Ferry, federal regulations require that the applicant must either undergo a federal background check as part of the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) program or already possess a TWIC. The TWIC must be obtained within 30 days of appointment, and be maintained for the duration of employment. For further program information, visit: https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic.

Minimum Qualifications

For Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.

SPECIAL NOTE
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
