Job summary

Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles seeks a College Access + Success Program Assistant to support the implementation and day-to-day operations of our college access, guidance, and scholarship programs. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about supporting under-served high school and college-aged youth in Los Angeles.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or current pursuit in education, social work, nonprofit management, or related field (or equivalent).
  • 1–3 years of relevant youth development or nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, families, and volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, coordination, and execution of college access programming, workshops, and events.
  • Support scholarship processes, including outreach, submissions tracking, and review materials.
  • Maintain participant records, data entry, and program metrics for reporting.
  • Coordinate volunteer and student ambassador activities and engagement.
  • Draft program communications and assist with outreach to schools and community partners.

Education

Working Location: 3 days in office; 2 days remote

POSITION SUMMARY:

Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles (JBBBSLA) is seeking a College Access + Success Program Assistant to support the implementation and day-to-day operations of our college access, guidance, and scholarship programs. This role works closely with the Director of College Access + Success to ensure high-quality programming, strong participant engagement, and efficient program administration. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about supporting under-served high school and college-aged youth in Los Angeles of all cultures, backgrounds, faiths, and denominations. They should be collaborative, proactive, and comfortable interacting with students, families, volunteers, and community partners. This position plays a key role in helping under-served youth navigate the path to and through college. This position is grant funded, currently for a period of two years. JBBBSLA therefore cannot guarantee that the position will exist beyond that period. JBBBSLA will notify the successful candidate if their position will be funded beyond the two-year period before the end of the funding period. This position is a position within the bargaining unit that is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between JBBBSLA and The Jewish Communal & Social Agency Employees, Local 800 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME, AFL-CIO, Local 800).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Program Coordination & Support
    • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of college access and success programming, workshops, and events.
    • Support the Erwin Rautenberg College Guidance Program, ensuring participant communication, scheduling, and logistics are executed effectively.
    • Help implement engagement strategies for high school students, college students, alumni, and program participants.
    • Coordinate logistics for workshops, college prep sessions, and scholarship-related events.
  • Scholarship Program Administration
    • Assist with scholarship application processes, including outreach, tracking submissions, and organizing materials for review.
    • Support scheduling of interviews, committee meetings, and communications with applicants.
    • Help prepare materials and logistics for scholarship award events.
    • Maintain accurate tracking of scholarship recipients and follow-up communications.
  • Data Management & Reporting
    • Maintain and update participant records, scholarship data, and program metrics in the organization’s database.
    • Assist in collecting and analyzing survey data for program evaluation.
    • Support reporting needs for grants, donors, and internal evaluation efforts.
    • Ensure data accuracy and timely documentation of all program activities.
  • Volunteer & Participant Engagement
    • Support volunteer coordination eƯorts, including scheduling, communication, and recognition.
    • Assist with student ambassador programming and peer leadership initiatives.
    • Serve as a point of contact for students and families, providing timely and supportive communication.
  • Outreach & Communications
    • Assist in promoting college access programs and scholarship opportunities to students, families, schools, and community partners.
    • Support outreach initiatives to increase program participation and engagement.
    • Help draft program materials, emails, and communications as needed.
  • Administrative Support
    • Provide general administrative support including scheduling, meeting coordination, and document preparation.
    • Assist with vendor coordination and event logistics.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or currently pursuing a degree in education, social work, nonprofit management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in youth development, education programs, or nonprofit settings preferred.
  • Strong interest in college access, college success, and supporting diverse youth populations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
