Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a Collector to perform collection activities for assigned accounts. You will contact patients and insurance representatives by phone or mail to check claim status, obtain information, review interim billings, and counsel patients on financial arrangements, maintaining detailed records in the accounts receivable system.

Qualifications

• Education minimum: H.S. Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Experience: 1 year in a collection/billing role preferred.
• Strong communication and counseling skills.
• Ability to manage patient and insurer payments sensitively.

Responsibilities

• Performs collection activities for assigned accounts and contacts patients, insurers, attorneys, employers, and physicians to resolve payment issues or arrange payment plans.
• Contacts patients and insurers by phone or mail to check claim status, obtain information, review interim billings, and counsel patients on financial arrangements.
• Maintains collection files in the accounts receivable system with detailed notes for follow-up.
• Processes accounts for write-offs after thorough research and presents documentation for approval to Billing and Collections Manager.
• Counsels patients regarding accounts and responds to inquiries; communicates with collection affiliates and provides information to Credit Bureau as needed.

Essential Functions Of The Role

• Performs collection activities for assigned accounts. Contacts patients, insurance companies, attorneys, employers, and physicians to resolve payment issues or arrange payment plans.
• Contacts patients and insurance representatives by phone or mail to check claim status, obtain insurance information, check interim billings, and counsel patients on financial arrangements.
• Maintains collection files on the accounts receivable system. Enters detailed records consisting of any pertinent information needed for collection follow-up.
• Processes accounts for write-off. Conducts thorough research on accounts to see if they qualify. Presents complete documentation to the Billing and Collections Manager for approval.
• Counsels patients regarding accounts and responds to patient inquiries.
• Communicates with collection affiliates and provides information to the Credit Bureau in solving payment difficulties.
• Receives, reviews, and responds to correspondence related to accounts. Takes action as required.
