Job summary

Norman Rockwell Museum is seeking a Collections Assistant to inventory, catalog, research, and prepare objects for digitization under a grant project. You will maintain detailed records in EMu and the public IMu portal, ensure proper handling, and support curatorial efforts with newly cataloged materials.

Reporting to the Archivist and Collections Manager, the role requires proficiency in databases, art history knowledge, and collaboration with interns and scholars.

Qualifications

• BA in art history or related field with 3+ years in a museum collections role.
• Familiarity with collections management, inventory, cataloging, object handling, and digitization.
• Knowledge of collection management databases.
• Proficiency with photo-editing software.
• Master's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inventory, catalog, research, condition report, rehouse, label, and create contextual materials for objects to be identified and recorded for digitization prep.
• Flag objects needing provenance, cultural/contextual research, rehousing or conservation.
• Create/update computerized records in EMu and the IMu portal; maintain physical files.
• Ensure proper object handling per standards and oversee digitization.
• Assist with the Curatorial team to use cataloged materials for exhibitions and educational products.
• Follow EMu cataloging style guides and work with interns.
