Job description

Position:Collaborative Care Psychiatrist

Location: REMOTE, MI

Job Id:130

# of Openings:1

Janus Healthcare Partners (Janus) is transforming the treatment of mental health conditions in Michigan through the gold-standard Collaborative Care model. Our model ensures that individuals struggling with depression, anxiety and other mental health challenges get access to the care they need while supporting primary care providers with high-quality integrated services. Founded by leaders with a track record of innovation and growth in the behavioral health industry, Janus is implementing its differentiated model with a focus on value-based care across patient populations with a range of behavioral health and chronic condition comorbidities.

The Collaborative Care Psychiatrist is a key support leader for the collaborative care team. In addition to the Collaborative Care Psychiatrist, the core team also includes a behavioral health care manager, the patient’s medical provider, and the enrollment specialist. The Collaborative Care Psychiatrist advises the primary care provider on appropriate medications and other treatment strategies and supports the collaborative care team with managing behavioral health conditions.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Conduct regular caseload consultations through systematic case review with behavioral health care managers, typically on a weekly basis with each care manager. The consultations will primarily focus on patients who are new to the caseload or those who are not experiencing the expected progress with their current treatment plan. However, a population-based approach will be prioritized and most individuals on a population registry will be expected to be reviewed briefly on a relatively frequent basis. Caseload reviews can be conducted via telephone, video, or in-person meetings.

2. Work with behavioral health care managers to oversee the status and population health of their assigned patient caseload. The psychiatric consultant uses a registry to track and prioritize all assigned patients for case review and treatment adjustment.

3. Provide prompt treatment recommendations and adjustments during the case review process or ad hoc consultations, ensuring that they are delivered within 24 hours of consulting with a behavioral health care manager or with other team members. These recommendations may include medication suggestions and other appropriate interventions.

4. Provide periodic one-time clinical evaluations for a small segment of caseloads for whom diagnostic clarification or complex treatment planning is required.

5. Offer guidance and advice on treatment options for patients who require more intensive or specialized mental health care. Support the provision of treatment within the medical setting until patients can be engaged in appropriate specialized care.

6. Clearly communicate the limitations of the case review consultation and treatment recommendations if the patient is not evaluated in person.

7. Be accessible and available to provide occasional ad hoc telephone consultations to primary care providers and other healthcare professionals, particularly in cases involving highly complex patients or challenging patient situations.

8. Support the service training of the behavioral health care managers to ensure delivery of services. Ensure that training and delivery of services have fidelity to the model, are compliant with contract, license, and program objectives. Ensure staff receive proper training required to provide current modalities of treatment and evidence-based services deployed through the clinical EHR. Additionally, develop and deliver in-service training for primary care-based providers and staff regarding recognition and treatment of behavioral health conditions in primary care.

9. Oversee clinical performance and outcomes, reporting requirements, adherence to local, state, and federal regulations and ensures program goals are met.

10. Promote cultural competency in all areas of services and ability to work in a diverse, multi-cultural environment and be sensitive to the service population’s culture and socioeconomic characteristics.

11. Engage in the development of medical policies and procedures, documentation of services to ensure compliance with policy and procedures.

12. Oversee clinical effectiveness and engage in the design, development, and delivery of new programs.

13. Ensure clinical programs meet contracts and agency revenue and productivity standards.

14. Liaison with and attends required and special meetings with funding sources, and committees. Meets with industry peers and relevant associations. Conduct public relations efforts. May require some visits with participating clinics.

15. Must remain knowledgeable regarding current issues related to integrated care, and Collaborative Care in particular. Keep abreast of legislative and licensing issues or damages.

16. Execute additional responsibilities as required and/or designated by Janus Healthcare management.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
  • Successful completion of the FLEX examinations.
  • Unrestricted current license in psychiatry in Michigan. Must be willing and able to obtain a license in the state of practice needed and have no barriers to obtaining such licensure.
  • A minimum of three years involving substantial direct patient care. Also prefer experience working with older adults, geriatric psychiatry, and/or Medicare populations who may have chronic medical and behavioral health challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting.
  • Positive, flexible, and solution-focused attitude.
  • Ability to quickly synthesize medical and psychiatric data and formulate effective and evidence-based clinical recommendations.
  • The position is remote and services can be provided telephonically or via video. Given the remote nature of the position, stable high-speed internet is expected.
  • Proficiency in operating computer systems and utilizing Microsoft software applications.
  • American Psychiatric Association training and/or prior experience serving as a psychiatrist in a collaborative care setting is preferred, but not required.
