Position Summary
The Assistant Coating Manager is a vital leadership role responsible for the operational excellence of our Paint line and Slitting departments. You will oversee day-to-day operations across all shifts, ensuring we exceed customer expectations through rigorous quality standards, on-time delivery, and optimized efficiency.
We are looking for a mentor and a strategist—someone who can develop a high-performance team, champion a culture of safety, and drive continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Primary Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Departmental Oversight: Manage the daily operations of the Coating and Slitting departments, including production scheduling, staffing coverage, and workflow optimization.
- Performance Tracking: Monitor production output and KPIs using on-line resources; analyze data to resolve production bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Supply Chain, Planning, and Maintenance to ensure material availability and equipment uptime.
- Strategic Vision: Translate company objectives into actionable goals for team members, fostering a sense of ownership and accountability.
Team Development & Accountability
- Talent Management: Lead, coach, and mentor Shift Supervisors and floor staff. Conduct regular performance reviews and implement development plans for high-potential employees.
- Onboarding & Training: Oversee the departmental training process, ensuring new hires are integrated effectively and that the 'Skills Matrix' is consistently updated.
- Communication: Facilitate regular team meetings to ensure seamless handoffs and consistency across all shifts.
Quality & Compliance
- Quality Assurance: Take full ownership of product integrity, ensuring all quality checks are performed and strict standards are enforced.
- Safety Stewardship: Promote a 'safety-first' culture, ensuring 100% compliance with PPE requirements and safety protocols.
Skills and Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years in a manufacturing/production environment, with at least 3 years in a direct leadership role managing a full team or function.
- Education: Associate’s degree in a related field preferred; equivalent experience combined with leadership certifications will be highly valued.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with production reporting systems and data-driven decision-making.
- Domain Expertise: Prior experience in coatings, industrial painting, heavy fabrication, or assembly environments is strongly preferred.
- Shift Flexibility: Proven ability to lead and maintain consistency across a multi-shift manufacturing setting.
- Strong communication, documentation, and incident management skills.
- Environment: Must be comfortable working in a manufacturing setting, which includes standing, walking, bending, and reaching throughout the shift.
- Lifting: Regularly lift up to 10 lbs; occasionally lift/move up to 50 lbs based on product requirements.
- Safety Gear: Strict adherence to PPE protocols is required, including the use of protective eyewear and task-specific safety gear.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a background check.
