Job summary

Arete Consulting Inc is seeking a Cognos SDK Expert in Gainesville, FL. The candidate will collaborate with the university’s team for batch automation and report development using IBM Cognos 11 SDK.

Responsibilities include assisting with accreditation data needs, providing guidance on data mart construction, and reviewing staff best practices. This position allows for 1 week on-site and 3 weeks remote work each month.

Job description

Location: Gainesville, FL (Each month, can work 1 week on-site and 3 weeks remote)

Duration: 3 months with potential for extension.

Overview

Candidate will work hands‑on with the University's team to do batch automation and report development using IBM Cognos 11 SDK and Report Authoring Tools.

Provide guidance and design advice on the same activities (regarding Student data mart construction) performed with other clients.

Provide documentation of work conducted and best practices for future reference.

Project Scope

• Validate University's planning assumptions and existing COMPASS model best practices.
• Assist with modifications to existing data mart models/packages and help deploy new models/packages. Developing Admissions, Services Indicators and Course Meeting Pattern data marts at this point.
• Assist colleges on accreditation and individual/custom reporting requirements and development – Meet with various colleges and review data needs for their accreditation process, create reporting specs that can be used to assist in data mart design or augmentation.
• Review, discuss and mentor staff on Framework Manager DMR uses and best practices.
• Assist with conversion of Cognos 10 SDK (Windows‑based implementation) to Cognos 11 (Linux‑based implementation) and upgrade of associated code.
• Assist with development on existing report specs remaining from Sierra‑Cedar as‑needed but not primary focus.

Required Skills / Experience for Report Authoring

• Very strong and hands‑on experience in Cognos SDK where SDK is heavily used for batch‑based automations in the reporting platform.
• Ability to go through custom SDK codes in 10.2 platform and ensure compatibility with Cognos Analytics v11 platform.
• Work very closely with business users to honor their wish‑list that can be served by using Cognos SDK. Strong hands‑on experience using SDK in Cognos report automation and distribution as well as change‑management deployment area.
• Strong hands‑on experience in blending Cognos capabilities with in‑house grown/custom applications. Hands‑on experience in IBM Cognos configurational aspects and ability to make custom/advanced level modifications to underlying default configuration. 100% proficiency in Report Studio, Framework Manager and Transformer. 100% proficiency in Administration Module of IBM Cognos including deployment managers, report schedulers, job management and Configuration Manager.

Highly Preferred Skills / Experience

• Exposure to PeopleSoft EPM running on Oracle.
• Previous experience in Cognos platforms running in Linux OS (migrating from Windows‑based Cognos to Linux‑based Cognos).
• Previous experience in Education and University Industry is nice to have.
• Previous experience in Cognos Series 7 especially PowerPlay.
