Minds Matter LLC in Emporia, Kansas seeks a Cognitive Therapist or Behavioral Therapist to support individuals who have experienced traumatic brain injury (TBI). You will develop cognitive strategies, memory aids, and skills to improve daily functioning and independence.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will implement individualized plans, educate families, document progress, and maintain confidentiality under HIPAA.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED required; Associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and implement Minds Matter LLC philosophical principles.
  • Assist individuals to identify needs and develop compensatory strategies for brain injury.
  • Integrate employment, education and independent living goals into therapy.
  • Work with consumer and team to determine goal attainment.
  • Provide services as designated on each consumer's care plan.
  • Educate families about brain injury and progress goals.
  • Document sessions promptly and clearly.
  • Attend weekly conference calls with supervisors.
  • Document sessions clearly and concisely.
  • Establish and maintain professional rapport with consumers, co-workers, referral agents and community services.
  • Promote public relations for the program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain care for Minds Matter LLC issued iPad.
  • Maintain HIPAA confidentiality.
  • Possibly serve as a consumer's team lead and update goal plans.

Job DetailsJob Location: Emporia, KSBASIC FUNCTION:

To work with individuals who have experienced a traumatic brain injury as a Cognitive Therapist or Behavioral Therapist.

Cognitive Therapist works with individuals that have experienced a traumatic brain injury to develop and utilize methods that enhance cognitive functioning. The Cognitive Therapist assists the individual through various methods including guided practice on tasks that reflect particular cognitive functions, development of new skills and strategies for taking in new information, use of memory aids and other assistive devices.

Behavioral Therapist works with individuals that have experienced a traumatic brain injury to change in ways that they would like to change. These strategies are used to help increase the quality of life of the individual with TBI in their community. Behavior Therapy emphasizes the individuals' current environment. It focuses on making positive changes in that environment while improving the individual's self-control using procedures to expand the person's skills, abilities, and level of independence.

SPECIFIC DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for learning and implementing all aspects of Minds Matter LLC philosophical principles.
  • Assists individuals to identify their needs and develop appropriate compensatory strategies to accommodate certain aspects of their brain injury. This includes developing, with the consumer, techniques for enhancing consumers' problem solving, memory, planning, organizational and processing skills.
  • Integrate employment, educational and independent living goals into therapy.
  • Work closely with the consumer and other team members to determine when goals are attained.
  • Provide services only as designated on each individual consumer's authorized plan of care.
  • Educate families and caregivers about the consequences of brain injury and communicate with them about goals and progress as needed.
  • Document sessions with the consumer the day of the service and is goal driven, concise, factual, and clear.
  • Attend all weekly conference calls and webinars with licensed supervisors.

  • Establish and maintain a professional rapport with all consumers, co-workers, referral agents and representatives of other community agencies and services.
  • Promote public relations throughout the agency and community for the program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Maintain confidentiality of protected health information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Possibly serve as a consumer's team lead, which entails being accountable for updating goal plans and team meeting history forms during the team meetings with progress, effectiveness of strategies, concerns, task assignments to team members, or changes to goals.
QualificationsMINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High School or GED required with one year or more years of related experience preferred. Associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
