Job summary

Commonwealth of Massachusetts is seeking a 3rd Class Power Plant Engineer for the Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children. The role operates and maintains high-pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment, responds to emergencies, and ensures fuel supply.

The position is 40 hours weekly, Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM. Responsibilities include monitoring gauges, starting/stopping equipment as needed, and performing preventative maintenance under supervision.

Qualifications

• Possession of a Third Class or higher Stationary Engineers license as required by MA law.
• Knowledge of industrial heating systems and safety procedures.
• Familiarity with pneumatic systems and controls used in power plants.
• Ability to read plans, drawings, and technical manuals.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts and respond to emergencies.
• Physical ability to lift heavy objects and operate equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate high-pressure steam power plant under supervision.
• Read, record and monitor gauges and charts for proper operation.
• Manage start/stop of boilers, turbines, generators, and pumps.
• Respond to plant emergencies on a 24-hour schedule.
• Process calls and coordinate with staff to resolve power plant issues.
• Lubricate and adjust equipment; perform preventative maintenance.
• Fill open shifts due to vacations or personal days.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
