What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Review inpatient medical records to assign appropriate codes per ICD-10-CM/PCS Official Guidelines
- Determine MS DRG/APR DRG assignments for optimal classification and accurate clinical reporting
- Identify and recommend physician queries when documentation is incomplete or unclear
- Perform coding validation on codes generated by computer-assisted coding tools
- Maintain productivity, quality, and accuracy standards for coding tasks
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Associate degree required; health information technology preferred
- AHIMA CCS Certified Coding Specialist credential or AAPC CIC Certified Inpatient Coder credential
- Three to five years of inpatient coding experience in a teaching or acute care hospital
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Ability to navigate electronic medical records and prepare compliant physician queries
