A healthcare staffing agency is seeking a Coding Specialist in Dallas, Texas. This role requires a high school diploma, certification, and at least three years of experience in a trauma hospital. What to Expect (Job Responsibilities)
  • Assign appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes for inpatient encounters ensuring accurate DRG assignment
  • Achieve and maintain 95% accuracy on quality reviews while meeting productivity standards
  • Abstract statistical data from medical records according to the employer's guidelines
  • Coach and train other coders on coding and abstracting according to established conventions
  • Collaborate with medical staff to clarify and complete records for accurate coding and billing
What is Required (Qualifications)
  • High school diploma required; must have completed an approved coding program or be a graduate of a Health Information Management program
  • Minimum of three (3) years of coding experience in an acute care Level I trauma hospital environment
  • Certification through the American Health Information Management Association as RHIT, RHIA, or CCS
  • Advanced knowledge of ICD-9/ICD-10-CM/PCS coding and reimbursement principles
  • Must score a minimum of 85% on a pre-employment coding test unless exempt
