Primary Purpose

The Coding Specialist I is responsible for coding and verifying charge data to ensure accurate coding, charging, abstracting, and billing for various outpatient and community health encounters. Proficiency in E/M, ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, HCC, HEDIS CAT II, and modifier assignment is required.

Minimum Specifications
Education
  • High school diploma and successful completion of an approved coding program, or
  • Graduate of a Health Information Management program.
Experience
  • 0 years required; 1 year in a clinical setting preferred.
Certification
  • CCA or certifications from AHIMA or AAPC as specified.
Skills
  • Strong coding, charge review, and knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
Responsibilities
  • Code and review charge quality for various outpatient encounters.
  • Assign appropriate codes and ensure 95% accuracy.
  • Verify and update charges, maintain documentation, and stay current with industry trends.
  • Maintain professional credentials and foster positive relationships with medical staff.
