Qualifications

  • Prior coding experience in an acute care or professional services setting.
  • Certifications such as RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC, or CIRCC are required or to be completed within 6 months.
  • Working knowledge of coding classification systems.

Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze medical documentation for inpatient, outpatient, and/or professional services
  • Assign appropriate diagnoses and procedure codes as per physician records
  • Adhere to the Standards of Ethical Coding set by the American Health Information Management Association
  • Follow official coding guidelines in all coding practices
  • Utilize coding classification systems like ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS in an acute care setting
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior coding experience in ICD-10-CM and HCPCS/CPT coding in an acute care or professional services setting
  • Certifications such as Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder (CIRCC), or completion within 6 months of employment
  • Working knowledge of coding classification systems in an acute care/hospital setting
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions involving keyboard and mouse use for data entry
Preferred Qualifications
  • A.S. from an accredited Health Information Technology program or B.S. from an accredited Health Information Management program
  • Familiarity with the 3M encoder and the Epic system
