The role you will contribute
Responsible for the supervision, training, and coordination of coding and abstracting functions within the Physician Enterprise Coding Department. Validates coder productivity and accuracy, researches coding inquiries, and ensures compliance with coding guidelines and regulations. Collaborates cross-functionally to enhance coding processes and outcomes, while maintaining current knowledge of coding standards and practices.
Responsibilities
- Provides the PE Directors with written status reports, issues, and overall status of the projects assigned.
- Leads and participates in special projects.
- Participates in the design, implementation, and maintenance of coding applications.
- Participates in hiring and training an effective Corporate Coding Operations Team.
- Supervises on-site and remote coding staff.
- Performs annual employee evaluations.
- Regularly reviews official coding resources to stay current and communicates updates to the coding team.
- Prepares and distributes training materials to facilitate understanding.
- Conducts credible research to ensure educational material contains current, relevant, reliable, and factual detail.
- Performs coding and abstracting functions as required to meet deadlines.
- Provides training to outsourced coding vendors.
- Estimates and tracks task completion time to ensure alignment with projections.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
- Bachelor’s in marketing, or healthcare required OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirement.
- 5+ years of experience
- 5+ years of experience as a manager with 5 or more direct reports
- 5+ years of outpatient coding experience
Licenses and Certifications:
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) [Required] OR substantial knowledge of outpatient workflows, outpatient and inpatient coding process.
- Knowledgeable with Microsoft software.
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to prepare training manuals, training schedules/timelines and conduct web based training.
- Ability to effectively operate equipment such as PC, LCD projector, microphone, video/web/tele-conference.
- Computer knowledge of Microsoft software, Power Point, Visio, electronic medical record applications, coding software
- Current knowledge of outpatient coding.
- Current knowledge of coding compliance and medical necessity audit correction process.
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to perform coding accuracy audits.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years computer knowledge of Microsoft software, PowerPoint, Visio, electronic medical record applications, coding software.
- Prior experience as a manager for remote employees
