Job Summary
Location: Methodist Corporate Office, 825 S 169th St., Omaha, NE. Work Schedule: Mon – Fri, 8:00am to 4:30pm.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement training plans for new hires and contract staff in inpatient and outpatient coding, ensuring timely completion.
- Provide ongoing education on coding guidelines, new government rules, and annual code updates for ICD‑10‑CM/PCS and CPT.
- Conduct audits during probationary periods and ongoing periods to verify knowledge and adherence to coding policies.
- Coordinate education offerings, room reservations, catering, and training supplies.
- Identify documentation trends, issues, and support resolution with physicians and other departments.
- Serve as a coder when volume exceeds department standards and perform audits on coders as directed by management.
- Collaborate with the Business Office to resolve denials and improve account payment timeliness.
- Develop and maintain audit spreadsheets and individualized education/training plans based on audit results.
- Lead the resolution of APC edits using the CSG Edit Report to ensure proper CPT coding for outpatient billing.
- Assist in formulating and refining coding processes to enhance productivity and record use.
- Cross‑train staff and develop specialty‑specific coding education materials.
- Work with Management to identify and support annual CEU offerings for coders.
Requirements
- Education: Minimum associate’s degree in Health Information Management or related field.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of coding acute care inpatient services and/or hospital outpatient and/or professional services.
- License/Certifications: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) and/or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Procedural Coder (CPC) or Certified Outpatient Coder (COC); Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) or Certified Inpatient Coding Auditor (CICA) required or obtain within twelve months of hire.
- Skills & Knowledge: Strong facilitation, attention to detail, deep knowledge of APC/DRG payment models, ICD‑10‑CM/PCS and CPT coding, proficiency with coding software, judgment and decision‑making, strong oral and written communication, organizational and independent work skills, team leadership, and handling interruptions.
Physical Requirements
Weight Demand: Sedentary work – up to 10lb. Sitting most of the time with occasional walking, standing, and light lifting. Frequent tasks include speaking, keyboarding, and visual tasks. Hazards include exposure to biological agents, hazardous chemicals, sharps, and physical hazards common to office environments.
