Job summary

University Health System seeks a Coding Specialist within Research Compliance to perform advanced coding reviews of clinical research, ensuring alignment with ICD-10-PCS, CPT, DRG, and APC standards while supporting accurate documentation and regulatory adherence.

You will collect data, generate statistical reports, and contribute to improving processes in concert with HIPAA, JCAHO, HHS, NIH, and FDA requirements, under the supervision of the Assistant Director.

Qualifications

• 3 years of experience with ICD-10-PCS, CPT coding systems is required.
• Knowledge of DRG and APC is required.
• Certification from AAPC or AHIMA is required.

Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

Works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Research Compliance. Performs at the advanced skill level of a Coding Specialist. Responsible for conducting clinical research reviews to assess the quality of coding and documentation to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations. Adept at data collection and statistical report generation. Demonstrates individual judgement, initiates work improvement methods. Promotes the University Health System Guest Relations Policy. Complies with all Federal and State regulations and accrediting bodies including but not limited to HIPAA, JCAHO, HHS, NIH, and the FDA. Promotes the University Health System vision of Triple Aim PLUS and assures all projects are executed within the expectations of internal and external stakeholders.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or its equivalent is required, college degree preferred. 3 years of experience with the International Classification of Diseases-Tenth Edition, Procedural Coding System (ICD-10-PCS), and the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding systems is required. Additionally, must hold significant knowledge of Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) as well as Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC). Valid certification offered by one of the following credentialing bodies is required: American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or from the American Heath Information Management Association (AHIMA). Must be knowledgeable of Microsoft Office products.
