Qualifications

JOB SUMMARY
The Coding/CDI Denials Analyst primarily reviews coding denials for inpatient hospital medical records, ensuring the accuracy of assigned codes and adherence to Official Coding Guidelines and conventions. The role involves verifying that clinical evidence and provider documentation support the assigned codes and DRG, composing and submitting appeal letters as needed, identifying coding trends and root causes of denials for educational purposes, and reporting these trends to improve processes.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required

  • 3-5 years of acute hospital-based Coding and/or CDI experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working in a remote environment
  • Denials and Appeals experience in an acute hospital setting

Licenses and Certifications

  • RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCDS, or CDIP certifications

Preferred

  • RN with CDI experience

JOB DUTIES

  • Review coding and clinical denials for compliance with guidelines and documentation support
  • Compose effective appeal letters based on current guidelines and evidence-based medicine
  • Identify coding and documentation trends and report root causes of denials
  • Assess and communicate DRG changes and financial impacts
  • Identify educational opportunities and report to the Lead Denials Analyst
  • Support front-end activities influencing denial and appeal processes
  • Maintain expertise in Coding/CDI guidelines and practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned
