Job summary

Fccmocksville is seeking a skilled Coder/Abstractor to assign ICD-9-CM and CPT codes for outpatient and emergency records. The role involves reviewing charts, ensuring medical necessity, and querying physicians when needed.

You will monitor unbilled accounts and perform related computer tasks in a fast-paced office. Qualified candidates have a high school diploma and AHIMA credentials or enrollment, strong typing, and excellent computer skills, with the ability to work independently and lift up

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; RHIT or CCS or enrollment preferred.
  • AHIMA accreditation or certification preferred or attains certification within 1 year of training.
  • Excellent computer and typing skills required. Knowledge of all office equipment including microfilm reader printers.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology. Anatomy and physiology and the various medical specialties.
  • Ability to read various handwriting, detail oriented, and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to handle stress in a mature and professional manner. Ability to identify problem situations and implement actions for improvement.
  • Must possess full range of body motion to pass a basic FIT test to include bending, stooping, standing and sitting for extended periods of time in order to handle medical records in file areas.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Requires normal vision/hearing range; absence of color‑blindness.
  • Must be able to distinguish letters and numbers.

Description

The Coder/Abstractor accurately codes all diagnoses and procedures for correct billing and accurate statistical using ICD-9-CM and CPT nomenclatures.
Also monitors and processes unbilled accounts and performs various computer-related tasks.
Codes all outpatient and emergency room records using standard classification systems accurately and in a timely manner.
Reviews records for medical necessity and queries physicians when necessary.
Monitors Outpatient unbilled report to maintain timely coding.
Has full access to patient health information.

Shift: M-F 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, progress to remote

Requirements
  • High School Diploma required. RHIT or CCS or enrollment preferred.
