Job Responsibilities:
  1. Abstract billing for outpatient evaluation and management codes, minor surgical procedure(s), and HCPCS codes from provider documentation, including assignment of CPT-4, ICD-10-CM codes, and modifiers.
  2. Research simple coding/billing issues for physicians to identify and recommend the most appropriate coding/billing methods, involving interaction with organizations such as the American Medical Association, specialty societies, or other coding consultants.
  3. Analyze medical records to determine the appropriateness of coding and identify potential patterns of abuse, working with Coding/Charge/Audit Analysts to resolve issues.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Minimum of two years of records coding experience or equivalent.
  • Ability to perform functions in a Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Attention to detail and high accuracy in tasks.
  • Sound decision-making skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Previous experience with an electronic legal health record system preferred.
  • Knowledge of Anatomy & Physiology and Medical terminology required.
Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification required or must be obtained within six months of hire.
