Position: Coder II (Inpatient)

Here’s What You Need:
Education & Certifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
- Completion or training in ICD-10 CM/PCS (provide documentation upon interview), with a competency of 95% accuracy required.
- Associate’s Degree in Health Information or related field preferred.
- At least 2 years of inpatient coding experience in an acute hospital setting required.
- AHIMA or AAPC coding credentials (CCS, CCS-P, CCA, CPC) upon hire required.
- RHIT or RHIA credentials upon hire preferred.
Skills:
- Analytical and interpretative skills for applying coding guidelines and principles.
- Ability to determine principal diagnosis for accurate coding, MS-DRG, and POA assignment.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS diagnosis and procedure coding guidelines, DRG, and POA assignment.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, encoder software, and computer-assisted coding software.
- Effective communication skills for clear documentation queries to physicians.
What You Will Do:
- Review and interpret health record documentation for accurate coding and DRG assignment.
- Calculate MS-DRG, Severity of Illness, and Risk of Mortality levels according to official guidelines and policies.
- Assess high-risk cases for pre-bill coding review.
- Abstract clinical data elements in accordance with THR guidelines.
- Validate and correct patient status, admission/discharge dates, and discharge disposition.
- Query physicians regarding documentation ambiguities or inaccuracies.
- Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Specialists to improve coding and documentation.
- Maintain productivity and quality metrics as outlined.
- Stay current with coding guidelines and complete required training and continuing education.
