Kaleida Health in Olean, NY is seeking a Medical Coder to review clinical documentation and accurately code encounters for billing and compliance. Candidates should have an associate's degree or be enrolled in a medical coding course, along with one year of experience.
The position offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring excellent communication skills and knowledge in medical terminology.
Review clinical documentation and diagnosis results to extract data and apply appropriate ICD-9-CM and CPT4 codes for billing, internal and external reporting, research, and regulatory compliance. Under the direction of Health Information Management (HIM) or a HIM supervisor, accurately code inpatient and outpatient encounters (e.g., diagnostic, therapeutic, emergency department services, ambulatory surgery, observation service, and behavioral health encounters) as documented in the ICD-9-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting. Resolve billing error reports, identify error patterns, and, when necessary, assist in designing and implementing workflow changes to reduce billing errors.
Associate’s degree from an accredited institution or enrollment in a medical coding course through an accredited agency (e.g., AHIMA/AAPC).
One year of progressive on-the-job experience. Must understand confidentiality and be able to operate in a PC in a network environment. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, basic medical terminology, disease states/processes, and pharmaceuticals is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
