Job summary

Aiken Regional Medical Centers in Aiken, South Carolina, seeks a Certified Medical Coder to code inpatient and outpatient records using ICD-10-CM and CPT in line with AHA guidelines.

The coder will determine accurate MS-DRG assignments, read records thoroughly, and serve as a coding resource for the hospital. AHA guidelines and encoder tools are used daily.

Qualifications

• Must hold active medical coding certification (e.g., CPC/CCC/Coders certs).
• Proficient in ICD-10-CM and CPT coding guidelines.
• Ability to interpret medical records and assign accurate codes.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret documentation to identify diagnoses and procedures.
• Utilize hospital encoder/grouper and coding references according to guidelines.

Position Description:

This position is responsible for coding inpatient and outpatient medical records according to ICD-10-CM and CPT in keeping with AHA coding guidelines. Codes are assigned to all diagnostic and procedural statements as documented in each patient’s medical record to determine the most accurate and optimal MS-DRG assignment.

Duties:

• Thoroughly reads and interprets documentation in the medical record to identify all diagnoses and procedures.
• Demonstrates proficiency with overall utilization of hospital encoder/grouper and its functions.
• Effectively utilizes AHA Coding Guidelines and other reference sources available within the department.
• Serves as coding resource for other departments/providers.
