Job summary

University Medical Center of El Paso is seeking a Coder/Abstractor in the Health Information Management department. The role codes, sequences and abstracts inpatient, outpatient, and emergency department records according to ICD-10-CM and CPT guidelines.

Requirements include a Certified Coding Associate (CCA) certification, with a Certified Coding Specialist to be obtained within 12 months of hire, a high school diploma or equivalent, and an associate degree preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
• One year of inpatient or outpatient coding experience preferred.
• CCA certification required; CPC/CSHCs within 12 months desirable.

Responsibilities

• Code, sequence, and abstract inpatient, outpatient, and ED records per ICD-10-CM and CPT.
• Collaborate with mentors to ensure accurate medical record coding.

Work Experience:

One year of inpatient or outpatient coding preferred.

License/Registration/Certification:

Certified Coding Associate (CCA) required.

Certified Coding Specialist required to be obtained within 12 months of hire.

Education and Training:

High School diploma or equivalent. Associate’s degree in related field preferred.
