Job description

Job Overview

Fairview is looking for an Inpatient Hospital Based Coder to join our team! This is a fully remote position approved for a 1.0 FTE (80 hours per pay period) on the day shift.

This position involves inpatient coding using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10 PCS classification systems. The coder will utilize an encoder and computer-assisted coding (CAC) software to ensure accuracy and thoroughness. Responsibilities include researching complex coding scenarios and querying physicians for clarification on documentation.

This is an inpatient coding position for an experienced, trained inpatient coder. The role involves analyzing clinical documentation, assigning appropriate diagnoses and procedures, and abstracting codes and clinical data. This information is used for determining reimbursement, assessing quality of care, studying illness patterns, and meeting regulatory and payer reporting requirements. The coder will also assist in resolving documentation issues and providing feedback to providers on documentation quality.

Responsibilities:
  • Review and code inpatient clinical records using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS according to guidelines and standards.
  • Identify and resolve documentation discrepancies to ensure data accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) staff to clarify documentation and improve code specificity.
  • Validate CAC output for accuracy and support efficient revenue cycle operations.
  • Demonstrate understanding of disease processes, medications, lab results, and diagnostic indicators for accurate coding and reporting.
  • Assist in educating physicians and staff on documentation and coding compliance.
  • Work with the revenue cycle team to ensure timely claim submissions and accurate charge capture.
Required Qualifications:
  • Certificate in coding or associate degree in HIM
  • At least 3 years of coding experience
  • Certification such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CIC
  • Basic knowledge of Windows-based software
  • Commitment to ongoing CEUs
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in HIM
  • Over 2 years of inpatient coding experience
  • Additional certifications like RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CIC

Compensation:
