Job summary

CSUDH Toro Auxiliary Partners is seeking a part-time STEM instructor to deliver hands-on Code Forward programs for K–12 students and educators. You will work with the CISE instructional and Fabrication Lab teams, lead a school-site Coding Club, and teach teacher microcredential courses.

Responsibilities include developing curriculum, facilitating Saturday and summer programs, and coordinating with partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and a valid California teaching credential.
• Experience teaching K–12 students, educators, or adult learners.
• Interest or experience in STEM education and digital fabrication.
• Strong communication, presentation, and classroom management skills.
• Ability to work independently and with teams.

Responsibilities

• Guide participants in using relevant software, technology, and fabrication equipment.
• Manage activities, attendance, and program documentation.
• Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment.
• Coordinate with school staff, administrators, and partners.
• Supervise support staff and student assistants as needed.
• Communicate updates and concerns to the program coordinator.
• Follow safety requirements for CISE and partner sites.

Position Overview

The STEM Instructor works with the CISE instructional and Fabrication Lab teams to deliver hands‑on STEM programs for K–12 students and educators. Assignments may include:

• Participating in the Code Forward program and leading a Coding Club at the instructor’s school.
• Teaching teacher microcredential courses.
• Facilitating CISE STEAM programs on Saturdays and during the summer.

A flexible schedule and availability at CSUDH and partner school sites are required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead engaging, project‑based STEM instruction for students and educators.
• Implement Code Forward curriculum and facilitate a school‑site Coding Club.
• Teach microcredential courses and other professional learning programs.
• Develop or adapt curriculum, presentations, agendas, and instructional materials.
• Teach participants to use relevant software, technology, and fabrication equipment.
• Manage classroom activities, materials, attendance, and program documentation.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive, and organized learning environment.
• Coordinate with CISE staff, school administrators, teachers, and program partners.
• Supervise support staff and student assistants when assigned.
• Communicate program updates and concerns to the program coordinator and supervisor.
• Follow all CISE, university, school‑site, and workplace safety requirements.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and a valid California teaching credential.
• Experience teaching K–12 students, educators, or adult learners.
• Interest or experience in STEM education, coding, educational technology, digital fabrication, or project‑based learning.
• Strong communication, presentation, classroom‑management, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and related educational applications.
• Willingness to learn and teach emerging technologies and fabrication equipment.
• Reliable transportation and availability for assigned Saturdays, summer sessions, and off‑site programs.
• Successful completion of required background screening, Live Scan fingerprinting, and tuberculosis clearance before beginning work with minors.
• Completion of Levels 1 and 2 of the Technology & Innovation in Education course is required for all Code Forward and STEM Program assignments.

Experience leading professional development is preferred for instructors assigned to teach microcredential courses.

Compensation

$100 per hour

Hours vary based on the assigned program.
