Position Summary

The City of Floresville is seeking a dependable, customer-service-oriented Code Enforcement/Animal Control Officer to enforce city ordinances, inspect properties, address code violations, and assist with animal control. This position works directly with the public and requires professionalism, communication skills, and sound judgment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Inspect residential, commercial, and other properties to identify violations involving overgrown lots, illegal dumping, nuisance conditions, and property maintenance.
• Notify property owners of violations of City ordinances and explain required corrective actions and compliance deadlines.
• Inspect properties before and after mowing or abatement services to verify that work has been completed satisfactorily.
• Prepare and process citations, work orders, mowing requests, data entry, and billing documentation related to code enforcement activities.
• Coordinate with the Public Works Department and other City personnel to address illegal dumping, property violations, and other abatement needs.
• Educate residents and businesses on proper solid waste disposal, including brush, debris, fats, oils, grease, and recyclable materials.
• Review maps, property records, and tax information to identify property ownership and assist with enforcement activities.
  Conduct follow-up inspections and investigations to determine compliance with City ordinances and applicable building permit requirements, including proper disposal of construction materials.
• Provide information to residents, businesses, schools, and community groups regarding City codes, ordinances, available services, and property maintenance requirements.
• Assist with the handling, care, and control of domestic animals using appropriate safety practices and equipment.
• Perform physical duties related to the position, including collecting bags of trash and small debris when necessary.
• Maintain accurate records, communicate effectively with the public, and handle complaints and potentially confrontational situations with professionalism and diplomacy.
• Perform other related duties as assigned, including evening, weekend, holiday, and emergency response duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and 30 college credit hours of related training; additional related work experience may substitute for education as permitted by the City.
• Valid Texas Class C driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Valid Code Enforcement Officer certification and registration through the Texas Department of State Health Services, or willingness to obtain certification within one year if hired in training.
• Ability to obtain a Non-Commercial Government Pesticide Applicator License within the first year of employment.
