The City of Sugar Land is seeking a full-time Code Compliance Coordinator in the Public Works - Environmental and Neighborhood Services Department.

As a Code Compliance Coordinator, You Will

  • Coordinate and oversee the Residential Rental Property License Program, including all assigned personnel, vehicles, equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Provide counsel to property owners and tenants regarding the program requirements.
  • Prepare and give presentations to boards, commissions, neighborhood associations, and the general public as assigned.Â
  • Ensure compliance with applicable City codes and regulations impacting the occupancy of residential rental properties.
  • Schedule, supervise and complete interior and exterior inspections of residential rental properties for compliance with all applicable codes and ordinances.
  • Issue notices of violations and court citations  as required and attend/testify in court cases where voluntary compliance is not obtained.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this position. Â
  • Required to work as an essential employee before, during and after an emergency or disaster, whether natural or acts of war.
  • Stay abreast of, and comply with, all City and departmental policies and procedures. Â
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director or his/her designee.

Formal Education

  • Associate degree from an accredited university required.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred. Â

Relatable Work Experience

  • Two years of relatable work experience in the inspection and enforcement of codes and ordinances associated with property maintenance, nuisance violations, unsafe building conditions, property standards or violations of fire, health or building regulations, statutes, or ordinances.Â
  • Municipal Experience is preferred.

Training (License And/or Certification)

  • Valid Texas "Class C" Driver License.
  • State of Texas Code Enforcement Officer Certification or the ability to obtain certification within the first six months of date of hire.
