Job description

CSCI is looking for an Cobol Developer to join our mainframe development team. Under general supervision, this role will modify and maintain moderately complex applications based on detailed specifications. The ideal candidate will be responsible for coding, testing, debugging, documenting and maintaining programs within the IBM mainframe environment. The select individual should be capable of working independently on most programming tasks, while also being open to instruction and guidance on more complex or unfamiliar assignments.

Responsibilities
  • Modify and enhance existing application programs using provided specifications
  • Develop, test, and debug COBOL programs for deployment in a mainframe environment
  • Prepare and configure software for use in IBM mainframe systems, ensuring accuracy and stability
  • Create and update JCL for efficient batch processing and job management
  • Maintain clear documentation for code, changes, and procedures
  • Collaborate with team members to meet project goals and resolve technical issues
  • COBOL Programming - Experience developing and maintaining COBOL-based applications
  • JCL (Job Control Language) - Ability to write and modify JCL for job execution and batch operations
  • IBM Mainframe Software Preparation - Proficiency in preparing applications for use in IBM z/OS or similar environments
  • Creativity and adaptability in problem-solving
  • Ability to work with clients to understand their needs
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional presence
Preferred Skills
  • 2-4 years of experience in mainframe application programming
