Job summary

Cobb is hiring for a night-shift position focused on processing chicks at our Arkansas facility. The role involves pulling chicks from hatchery baskets, loading them for processing, and maintaining a clean, disinfected pull room with strict biosecurity practices.

  • Remove/count chicks from conveyor belt into chick box (25%).
  • Transfer dirty baskets to tray washer; disinfect clean baskets (25%).
  • Clean and disinfect pull room (10%).
  • Operate cleaning and washing equipment; assist with nightly tasks and maintain a clean work area (15%).

Schedule: Sat, Sun, Tues and Wed nights

Hours: 6pm until order is complete, approx. 6am. including Holiday’s.

Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs.

Applicants with previous agricultural or production experience will be considered preferred. Applicant must have at least six consecutive months of work experience with the same employer and no additional gaps in employment greater than six months with the last 36 months. If applicant was laid-off, providing eldercare or childcare, the six month gap will be increased to 18 months. Previous work history criteria will not apply to applicants who have been full time students consecutively for the last 36 months.

Summary
  • This position is responsible for the pulling of chicks and preparing chicks for processing; properly disposes of substandard chicks. Washing and disinfecting of the pull room. Other duties may be assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Removing new chicks from hatchery baskets loading them onto a belt (25%)
  • Removing/stacking newly counted chicks from conveyor belt after being placed in chick box (25%)
  • Transferring dirty basket into the tray washer; removing and disinfecting clean basket from tray washer. (25%)
  • Cleaning and disinfecting pull room. (10%)
  • Other duties, responsibilities and activities may be assigned at any time with or without notice. Such as: Operate a high pressure and regular water hose, operates box washer, placing new pads into empty chick boxes for the following day, maintains a clean and organized work area, assisting with nightly laundry as needed. (15%)
Biosecurity / Animal Welfare / Safety Requirements
  • The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear is provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines. Will be trained to recognize and comply with all Safety procedures.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly remove hatcher basket from stack of 15 high (overhead lifting) weighing 20-25lbs. Must regularly lift and stack chick boxes (wheeled dolly) weighing up to 12 pounds and will occasionally be required to push or pull stacks of boxes up to 125 pounds. Will regularly be required to pull/push 500 to 1000 pounds (wheeled carts). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk majority of shift (concrete floor); sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; talk or hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Environment: Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also work in hot, dry, dusty, wet, icy, snowy and cold environments.
  • Personal Protective Equipment Required: Safety goggles, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and rubber boots are required. Ear plugs will be used as required. NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed.
  • Chemicals Commonly Used: Disinfectants such as Synergize, Lysol, bleach, etc.
  • Safety: TM is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment. TM is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
