Job summary

Cobb is hiring a Biotech Worker in Strawberry Hill, Monticello, KY. The role collects biotechnology samples for genetic gain of pedigree chickens and supports lab operations. This position reports to an Assoc Analyst and requires a valid driver’s license and a consistent work history.

The schedule is 5:00am–3:00pm, Tuesday through Friday, with holidays observed. Starting pay is $19.05 per hour with additional shift differentials for evenings, nights, and weekends, and multiple benefits from day

• 12+ months of consecutive work history with one employer.
• No gaps >6 months in past 36 months.
• Rehire rules: no more than 3 times for Cobb/Tyson Foods.

Application Considerations

Priority consideration will be provided to internal applicants first. Applicants with previous agricultural or production experience will be considered preferred. Applicants must reside in the United States to be considered for an interview.

Requirements

Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months. If applicant has been laid off or providing child or elder care, the employment gap will be increased to 18 months. Previous work history will not apply to applicants who have been full time students consecutively for the last 36 months. Rehire criteria is a minimum waiting period of 180 days. Rehire Rule of no more than 3 times worked at Cobb/Tyson Foods.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for the collection of all biotechnology samples for the genetic gain of pedigree chickens. Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Must have valid driver’s license.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples from Pedigree birds to monitor bird health and diseases (25%)
• Cleans and sanitizes sampling and blood testing instruments (15%)
• Perform simple math as part of recording information according to instructions for sampling of pedigree chickens (50%)

Other duties, responsibilities, and activities

• move birds as required to other houses per house schedule
• clean and disinfect the equipment and vehicles used in moving birds, supplies, or equipment on the farm
• help laundry staff as needed
• properly euthanize weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy
• off-farm shopping for supplies
• may travel to various farms for training and implementation of procedures when studies are being done with duration of 1 week at a time may be expected (10%)

Biosecurity/Animal Welfare

• The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear is provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing.
• Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid contact with any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.).
• Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly lift and/or move, up to 50 pounds, utilizing 2 Team Members, to move items such as bird coops; tools, such as pallet jack, may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 250 pounds such as stacks of bird coops.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor); walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; stoop/bend up to 1000 times per day; talk or hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex.
• Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.

Tablet, Scanner, Pipette, Syringes, Vehicle, Pressure Washer

Personal Protective Equipment Required

• Safety goggles, safety glasses, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and rubber boots are required.
• Ear plugs will be used as required.
• NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed.

Chemicals Commonly Used

Disinfectants such as Synergize, Virocid, Lysol, etc.

Environment

Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also work in hot, dry, dusty, wet, icy, snowy and cold environments.

Safety

TM is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment. TM is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
