Job summary

Sherwin-Williams is seeking an Associate Chemist for our General Industrial division to develop new technologies and platforms in high-performance coatings. The role involves experimental planning, data documentation, and collaborative product development in a lab setting.

Responsibilities include basic paint formulation, data input, and supporting solve of field and manufacturing issues with a focus on solvent- and water-borne chemistries.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
• Must be able to determine color differences to tint paint accurately.
• Experience with laboratory data input, analysis, and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Assist mentor chemist in developing and refining products through experiments and data analysis.
• Demonstrate basic lab skills with chemicals, materials, substrates and standard lab instruments.
• Input, analyze and document data daily in lab books or databases.
• Work under supervision and potentially lead small projects.
• Develop products using advanced technologies to improve performance.
• Perform basic paint making and coating formulations and testing methods.
• Provide timely data to address field complaints and manufacturing issues.
• Support new product development and existing product improvements.
• Experience with solvent-borne and water-borne acrylic, alkyd, epoxy and urethane chemistries.
• Maintain strong organization and communication throughout projects.
