Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Coatings Inspector I to perform basic inspection of protective coating work under the direction of CIP Level 2/3 inspectors. You will verify surface preparation to SSPC/NACE standards, measure ambient conditions and surface profile, and document each coating step on tanks, structural steel, pipe, and concrete.

Responsibilities include recording ambient readings, verifying prep and surface finish, checking wet and dry film thickness, tracking materials

Qualifications

• AMPP CIP Level 1 certification current required.
• 1+ years in industrial coatings application or inspection.
• Comfortable working around blasting and spray operations.
• Meticulous with instruments and records.
• Honest about what the gauge reads.

Responsibilities

• Measure and record ambient conditions (temperature, humidity, dew point) before and during application.
• Verify surface preparation to SSPC/NACE cleanliness and profile standards.
• Measure wet film and dry film thickness and check for holidays and defects.
• Verify coating materials, batch numbers, mixing, and pot life against the manufacturer data sheet.
• Maintain daily coating inspection log and photograph each stage of the work.
