Job summary

Fives DyAG Corp. in Worcester, MA is seeking a Coating Operator to coat or laminate film prior to converting or shipping. You will follow daily work orders, load materials, set up machines, and perform basic quality checks.

You may operate various coating machines, document data in QAD, and adjust machinery to meet customer specs while adhering to safety rules. This is a 3-month position with potential extension and hourly pay with shift differentials.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent experience.
• 12–18 months' work experience with coating machines to become proficient.
• Must follow safety specifications and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Load raw materials onto coating machine and adjust speed and tension.
• Set temperatures, airflows, and threading per work order specifications.
• Conduct basic quality checks for defects and scratches.
• Enter material data into the QAD system for inventory management.
• Review customer specs with supervisor and ensure proper process folders.

Pay rate: $20.00 - $22.00/hr + 10% differential when working 2nd shift and 13% shift differential for 3rd shift
Hours: Training will likely be on first shift. 2nd shift 2:30pm- 11:00pm. 3rd shift 11:30pm- 8:00am
Location: Worcester, MA
Duration: 3 months, with potential to extend

Summary:

The Coating Operator coats or laminates film prior to the converting process or directly for shipment to the customer.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required of the Coating Operator.

Materials & Products

• Works with silicone, non-silicone, and adhesive mixes to coat or laminate products according to customer specifications.

Equipment

• Uses a variety of coating machines and a hydraulic lift for loading and unloading materials prior to transport to staging area for shipment.
• May be responsible for using basic hand tools such as a hammer, screwdriver or socket set to build or breakdown machinery parts.

Procedures

• Receives daily assignments at the start of each shift to include machinery to be operated, work orders and process folders with job specifications.
• Ensures that machines have been cleaned and temperatures, airflows, speed and threading are set to specifications prior to beginning a new work order.
• Loads raw materials onto machine using a hand crank or hydraulic lift.
• Adds mixes to machine either by pumping from a drum or adding by hand to ensure proper consistency in accordance with work order.
• Strikes off routine products on coaters to verify quality.
• Enters information into Queen Anne Drive (QAD) system upon receipt of material and before returning to warehouse for proper inventory management.
• Reviews customer specifications and reviews requirements with supervisor if information is not included in the process folder.
• Adjusts machine for speed and tension using either hand controls or touch screen.
• Performs basic quality testing to include visual inspection of defects and scratches.
• Understands and adheres to all company safety specifications related to the use of coating machine

Complexity

• Accurately identifies the typical mixes and raw materials and supplies to verify against the work orders and process folders.
• Requires knowledge of the various coating machines and basic troubleshooting procedures.

Latitude of Judgment

• The Coating Operator follows clearly defined work orders to determine coating requirements as prioritized by a supervisor, however, independent judgment is often required to make adjustments to machinery.
• Utilizes skills in adjusting machinery to assure proper coating and avoiding product damage.

This job does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING TIME

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent experience.
• This position requires 12 to 18 months' work experience depending on the type of coating machine to become proficient in all phases of the job to work independently.

Physical Demands/Efforts

• Coating must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds (i.e. shaft, idler, mixes) without assistance and up to 200 lb. plastic film rolls with assistance.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
• The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and smell.

Mental & Visual Demands

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions, job folders and memos required.
• Performs basic math calculations, by hand and by computer, to include conversions, weight measurements, volume and distance.

Work Environment

• While performing the duties of this job within the manufacturing environment, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.
• The employee works in a manufacturing setting and is occasionally exposed to heat, fumes, or airborne dust.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud when blower is in use.

Various PPE devices & equipment such as gloves, safety shoes, dust masks, hearing protection, and glasses may be required.
