Job summary

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks a postdoctoral researcher in Coastal Landscape analysis and modeling to synthesize regional-scale remote sensing imagery and ecological monitoring data. You will develop data-driven methods to predict land loss and ecosystem transitions in wetland-rich Gulf Coast landscapes, focusing on coastal Louisiana, using AI/ML tools.

Qualifications

• Experience using AI/ML methods in environmental or Earth science contexts.
• Strong track record of independent and productive research with conference presentations or peer‑reviewed publications.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Synthesize, harmonize, and analyze large environmental monitoring and remote sensing datasets from coastal Louisiana.
• Train and apply multimodal and generative AI methods to predict land loss and vegetation change at high spatial resolution.
• Collaborate with remote-sensing scientists, modelers, and empiricists across DOE laboratories and universities to address project objectives.
• Present results within the research group and at national and international conferences and publish manuscripts in peer‑reviewed journals.
