Job summary

GIFFORDS Center for Violence Intervention invites applicants for a two-year Fellowship as Coalition Manager to strengthen statewide CVI coalitions, expand a national peer network, and support new coalitions in priority states. The role emphasizes relationship building, project management, and trauma-informed communication in a fast-paced nonprofit setting.

The Fellow reports to the Associate Director of Coalitions and collaborates with policy leaders to grow SCCA and provide resources,

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Support SCCA member development and engagement through needs assessments, outreach, site visits, onboarding, training, technical assistance, peer learning, one-on-one meetings, and ongoing relationship management.
• Support SCCA infrastructure and member resources, including maintaining a national repository and developing model policies, training materials, webinars, strategic planning tools, coalition updates, and other field resources.
• Plan and support SCCA convenings and cross-state coordination, including monthly virtual meetings, the annual in-person gathering, peer learning, cross-state advocacy efforts, and member communications.
• Support the development of new statewide CVI coalitions in priority states, including stakeholder mapping, relationship-building, governance development, recruitment, and facilitation of early convenings.
• Support state and federal CVI advocacy efforts by preparing talking points, fact sheets, sign-on campaigns, legislative monitoring reports, model policies, advocacy days, and other policy resources.
• Help develop and administer the CVI Coalition Support Fund, including establishing funding criteria, managing applications and review processes, tracking awards, and monitoring grantee progress and capacity-building activities.
• Help establish and support a Frontline Worker Advisory Committee that brings frontline workers, people with lived experience, and survivors into SCCA policy and coalition strategy through regular convenings, policy review, and input opportunities.
• Serve as a thought partner and resource to coalition leaders, connecting members to GCVI expertise and peer networks while tracking emerging CVI policy, funding, and field trends.
• Support the broader GCVI team with research, event coordination, data tracking, coalition programming, and other duties as assigned.

About this Opportunity

The Coalition Manager is a two-year, full-time fellowship focused on strengthening statewide CVI coalitions, expanding a national peer network, and supporting new coalitions in priority states. This relationship-focused role requires strong coordination and strategic skills, with quarterly travel and occasional work outside standard hours.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and collaborative, with strong project management and trauma-informed communication skills. They should be comfortable managing multiple priorities, working with diverse stakeholders, organizing complex information, and supporting both internal and external initiatives in a fast-paced environment that seeks to uplift communities most impacted by gun violence.

The Fellow will receive mentorship, professional development, and exposure to CVI efforts across multiple states, while applying healing-centered and trauma-informed practices to coalition engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Fellow reports directly to the Associate Director of Coalitions, GCVI and works in close coordination with the Policy Director of the GCVI team. This fellowship experience will focus on strengthening the State CVI Coalition Alliance (SCCA), a national peer network for statewide CVI coalition leaders. The Fellow will support the evolution of SCCA from a content delivery convening model toward structured member development and cross-state coordination.

• Support SCCA member development and engagement through needs assessments, outreach, site visits, onboarding, training, technical assistance, peer learning, one on one meetings, and ongoing relationship management.
• Support SCCA infrastructure and member resources, including maintaining a national repository and developing model policies, training materials, webinars, strategic planning tools, coalition updates, and other field resources.
• Plan and support SCCA convenings and cross-state coordination, including monthly virtual meetings, the annual in-person gathering, peer learning, cross-state advocacy efforts, and member communications.

Professional Development

GIFFORDS has structured this fellowship as a formative professional experience. As such, the Fellow will receive:

• Mentorship and professional development through workshops focused on technical skills, panel discussions and networking with the GCVI as well as the broader GIFFORDS team
• Attendance and participation at major CVI field convenings including the GIFFORDS CVI Conference and SCCA In-Person Convening
• Exposure to policy advocacy, field research and communications functions across the GCVI team

Qualifications

Required knowledge, skills + experience

• Demonstrated commitment to community violence intervention or gun violence prevention, whether through professional experience, lived experience, community involvement or academic work
• Demonstrated experience leading successful issue based campaigns by way of community organizing, coalition work or stakeholder engagement
• Strong organizational and project management skills; ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines simultaneously
• Demonstrated a strong track record of policy synthesis in CVI or related fields
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clearly for practitioner, policy and advocacy audiences
• Comfort working in fast-moving, relational environments where not every process is established

Valued non-essential knowledge, skills, + experience

• Familiarity with state-level policy advocacy or legislative process
• Experience with stakeholder convening facilitation
• Experience supporting or participating in coalitions, networks or membership organizations
• Proficiency with standard project management and communications tools

Salary + benefits

The salary range for this position is $71,000 - $77,000 annually, with the exact salary depending on experience.
