Job Description

Assistant Coach - High School

Assists the Head Coach in developing and maintaining the Joseph City High School sports program. Supports student‑athletes in improving skills and self‑esteem.

Reporting

Reports To: Activities Director

Classification: Extra Duty

Status: Part‑Time Seasonal

FLSA: Exempt

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, organizing, and directing the assigned sports program.
• Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
• Assess skills and assign team positions.
• Schedule and conduct practices throughout the year.
• Acquire and maintain necessary coaching certifications for the state of Arizona.
• Teach athletes the fundamental skills, theory, and strategy of the sport.
• Model good sportsmanship.
• Support and work effectively with supervisors and other staff.
• Coordinate and work cooperatively with other departments and staff as needed.
• Lead and organize out-of-season training.
• Track uniforms and equipment provided to the student‑athletes, verifying all is returned in working order.
• Attend the Blue and Gold Awards Banquet.
• Provide appropriate care for the safekeeping and protection of district equipment, facilities, and other assets.
• Ensure compliance with safety practices and procedures and with applicable federal (NFHS), state (AIA), and district codes, regulations, and requirements.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student, staff, and management information.
• Support with integrity the mission, vision, goals, and positive culture of Joseph City Schools.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Frequent standing, walking, moving, sitting, speaking, hearing, reaching with arms and hands, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling. Ability to lift/move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception and ability to adjust and focus. Repetitive motions with wrists, hands, fingers.

Working Conditions

Must work indoors and outdoors. Noise level moderate to high. Temperature extremes from extremely cold to extremely hot. Must meet deadlines with time constraints and interact with students, employees, and public.

Salary

Part‑time: $1,498 to $2,014. See Salary Schedule: Extra Duty 1.
