Job Description

Position Title: Head Dance Coach

Reports To: Athletic Director / Site Administration

Position Overview

Bradshaw Mountain High School, located in Prescott Valley, Arizona, is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Head Dance Coach to lead the school's Dance Program. The Head Dance Coach will be responsible for developing and maintaining a positive, inclusive, and competitive program that promotes excellence in dance performance, school spirit, leadership, sportsmanship, and student development. The Head Dance Coach will organize and supervise all aspects of the dance program, including practices, performances, competitions, team selection, fundraising, community engagement, and student-athlete mentorship. The coach will work collaboratively with school administration, athletic staff, students, parents, and community stakeholders to foster a culture of excellence both on and off the performance floor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Leadership
  • Develop, organize, and oversee all aspects of the high school dance program.
  • Establish and communicate clear expectations for student participation, conduct, attendance, and performance.
  • Promote a positive team culture that emphasizes leadership, discipline, teamwork, accountability, and school pride.
  • Develop long-term goals and objectives for program growth and success.
  • Practice and Performance Management
  • Plan and conduct effective practices that focus on technical skill development, choreography, conditioning, flexibility, and performance execution.
  • Prepare students for school performances, athletic events, assemblies, community appearances, and competitions.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback to support individual and team growth.
  • Ensure proper supervision of students during practices, performances, competitions, and travel.
  • Student Development
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor for student participants.
  • Promote academic achievement and monitor participant eligibility requirements.
  • Foster personal growth, leadership development, sportsmanship, and responsible decision-making.
  • Support student well-being while maintaining high standards of conduct and professionalism.1
Event and Competition Coordination
  • Coordinate competition schedules, travel arrangements, and event logistics in collaboration with the Athletic Department.
  • Ensure compliance with Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) rules, district policies, and school expectations.
  • Oversee team participation in school spirit activities and campus events.
  • Communication and Community Relations
  • Maintain positive and professional communication with students, parents, staff, and administration.
  • Represent Bradshaw Mountain High School and Humboldt Unified School District in a professional manner at all times.
  • Support fundraising efforts and community outreach activities that benefit the dance program.
  • Collaborate with athletic programs, student organizations, and school leadership to enhance school culture and spirit.
Program Administration
  • Maintain accurate records, rosters, eligibility documentation, and inventory of equipment and uniforms.
  • Assist with budgeting and responsible management of program resources.
  • Ensure all safety protocols are followed during practices, performances, and events.
Qualifications
  • Previous dance coaching, dance instruction, choreography, or competitive dance experience preferred.
  • Experience working with high school-aged students preferred.
  • Knowledge of dance technique, choreography development, performance preparation, and competition standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, motivate, and lead students in a positive environment.
Required Certifications and Clearances

Candidates must possess or be able to obtain:

  • Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification
  • NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certification
  • NFHS Concussion in Sports Certification
  • NFHS Protecting Students from Abuse Certification
  • NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest Certification
  • Any additional certifications required by the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) or Humboldt Unified School District
