Job description

Join our coaching staff! MSHS is looking for an Assistant Volleyball Coach.

To instruct students in the fundamental skills, strategy, and training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. The student shall receive instructions that will lead to pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence.

Essential Functions
  • Supervise students during scheduled practices
  • Stay informed on new techniques or concepts related to the assigned area
  • Inventory and maintain equipment and uniforms
  • Coach and model good sportsmanship and citizenship as defined by KSHSAA
  • Provide a safe, educational, and competitive environment for practices and performances
  • Communicate effectively with the school office, media, and parents
  • Maintain the physical well-being of students in all areas related to the role
  • Request transportation, lodging, and stipend
  • Develop and implement practice plans to improve performance while adhering to safety guidelines
  • Motivate student-athletes by instilling a positive attitude and high expectations
  • Teach the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic dedication
  • Evaluate student-athletes’ strengths and weaknesses and strategize game tactics and player positions
  • Attend all practices and games, arriving prepared with necessary equipment
  • Stay updated on sport developments by attending clinics and workshops
  • Complete all required training by KSDE and the district
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or principal
Minimum Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Knowledge of sport fundamentals and KSHSAA rules
  • Knowledge of district policies and expectations
  • Understanding of age-appropriate activities, lesson planning, child development, instruction methods, disabilities, and behavioral strategies
  • Effective communication with tact and patience
  • Ability to work with diverse groups and individuals
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills to create action plans
  • Ability to build and maintain constructive relationships
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work independently

Must pass background check and TB test.
