Responsibilities

  • Work within the framework and philosophy of the head coach.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of modern trends, techniques, strategies, and playing rules.
  • Assist the head coach in carrying out responsibilities.
  • Organize, supervise, and evaluate practice sessions.
  • Implement a safety plan teaching proper techniques.
  • Adhere to all safety rules.
  • Have an emergency medical plan in place.
  • Inform parents of attendance, discipline, and injury.
  • Relate to staff professionally.
  • Demonstrate appropriate sportsmanship with athletes, peers, and the public.
  • Motivate players.
  • Keep players informed of camps, weight programs, etc.
  • Teach and discipline consistently.
  • Adhere to WIAA, league, district, and building rules.
  • Direct student managers and statisticians.
  • Assist head coach in scheduling and providing transportation to events.
  • Adhere to scheduled facility times.
  • Instruct changes in rules and fundamentals as outlined by head coach.
  • Attend staff meetings and scouting assignments.
  • Secure doors, lights, windows and locks when custodians are not on duty.
  • Instill respect for equipment and school property.
  • Arrive early and stay late to prepare and support players.
  • Assist conditioning programs (in-season and out-of-season).
  • Never criticize head coach or staff.
  • Attend clinics to improve skills.
  • Examine locker rooms for cleanliness.
  • Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of sports equipment.
  • Complete SafeSchools training annually.
  • Complete sport-specific WIAA coaching standard courses by the third week of the season.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively carry out the duties of the position and comply with the policies/procedures set forth by the Principal, Athletic Director, and the Moses Lake School District.
  • Exhibited knowledge of the sport, demonstrated technical skills, and successful experience teaching these skills to secondary school student-athletes.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR/AED Certification or ability to obtain prior to start of season.
  • Ability to meet WIAA age requirements applicable to the position.
  • Exhibit the organizational skills and abilities to ensure a well-managed program.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the head coach in scheduling and providing transportation to sport events.
  • Adhere to scheduled facility times.
  • Instruct team members as to changes in the rules and teach fundamentals of the sport as outlined by the head coach.
  • Attend all staff meetings and carry out scouting assignments as outlined by the head coach.
  • Secure all doors, lights, windows and locks before leaving building if custodians are not on duty.
  • Instill in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use.
  • Arrive early enough before practice, contests, and meetings to adequately prepare, and remain long enough afterwards to help players with problems or to become involved in staff discussions.
  • Help in the planning and implementation of both in-season and out-of-season conditioning and weight programs.
  • Never criticize, admonish, or argue with head coach or any staff member within hearing or sight of players or parents.
  • Strive to improve skills by attending clinics and using resources made available by the head coach.
  • Examine locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on general cleanliness of the facility.
  • Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sports equipment.
  • Complete mandatory SafeSchools training annually.
  • WIAA standards require all coaches to complete sport specific WIAA coaching standard courses by the third week of the season.
