Job summary

BronxWorks is seeking a dedicated youth sports coach to oversee the SNL program at our Bronx locations. You will coordinate practices, recruit staff, organize game schedules, monitor eligibility, and communicate with parents, staff, and DYCD to ensure safety and program quality.

Requirements include 1–2 years coaching youth (ages 11–24), a High School Diploma or Associate degree in Sports Management, and familiarity with video conferencing tools.

  • Monitor academic eligibility and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Coordinate with parents/guardians regarding athletic performance.
  • Ensure equipment, supplies, and uniforms are properly cared for and requisitioned.
  • Work with DYCD as a liaison for BronxWorks and track game scores and achievements.
  • Represent the program professionally and promote sportsmanship and inclusion.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee all aspects of the SNL (Saturday Night Lights) sports program, demonstrating effective communication and planning, strong organizational and administrative skills, and sound decision-making
  • Responsible for the recruitment and retention of SNL team members
  • Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  • Observes players during competition and practice, to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
  • Monitors the academic performance of SNL team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
  • Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their children.
  • Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletics program.
  • Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, & requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  • Organize, plan and conduct practices, game, tournaments and hold individual skill instructions session
  • Work directly with DYCD as a liaison for BronxWorks
  • Coordinate with the Program Coordinator and Program Director to provide accurate data for game scores as well as individual and team accomplishments/challenges.
  • Participate in the development of the whole student- regarding individual well-being and life skills.
  • Represent the program with the highest level of professionalism, sportsmanship and integrity.
  • Foster and maintain a culture that demonstrates a commitment to compliance with all leagues, DYCD, and BronxWorks rules and regulations.
  • Foster and maintain a culture that demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as well as trust and mutual respect.
  • Participates in special activities to include parents’ night, banquets, awards nights, and pep assemblies.
  • Interacts in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
  • Promotes good public relations by personal appearance, hygiene, attitude and conversation
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 1-2 years’ experience minimum in coaching sports to youth ages 11- 24
  • High School Diploma or Associates Degree in Sports Management
  • Vast knowledge of Sports landscape
  • Understanding of sports played at high school to collegiate level
  • Ability to use video conferencing platforms
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.
  • Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation.
  • Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather, if required to conduct home visits and/or field work.
