Job summary

HRRMC in Salida, Colorado is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Family Birthing Center to independently assess labor and neonatal health and coordinate care with families and the health care team.

The role requires ADN, Colorado RN license, BLS and NRP; ACLS preferred. Shift is 6 pm–6 am, 36 hours weekly, with potential weekend/holiday requirements and strong emphasis on patient education.

Qualifications

  • Requires ADN from an accredited nursing program.
  • Active Colorado RN license with BLS & NRP; ACLS preferred.
  • Two years of experience in labor/delivery or related OB nursing.
  • Shift differentials may apply.

Responsibilities

  • Direct patient care during labor, delivery, and postpartum.
  • Educate mothers on infant care and breastfeeding.
  • Document all events in the patient record.
  • Communicate patient status to physicians and supervisors.
  • Collaborate with nursery staff and other care team members.
  • Assist physicians with procedures as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, clean environment in the FBC unit.

Work where others vacation, in beautiful Salida, CO EXP: Two years of experience is required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Maintain current, active license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado. BLS & NRP Required ACLS certification and NRP preferred.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Minimum of an Associate s Degree (ADN) from an accredited nursing program.

SCOPE STATEMENT

A Registered Nurse (RN) for the Family Birthing Center is able to independently assess and evaluate the health status of both labor and neonate patients utilizing objective and subjective data and identifying health care problems. Through the care planning process, the RN collaborates with the patient, family, providers, and others on the healthcare team to establish realistic and measurable short and long term goals; prioritizing needs through planning, and the implementation of all interventions to include patient education and counseling. The RN must maintain safe and effective care throughout the episode of care through the institution of standard procedures that stabilize each patient's condition or through the prevention of serious complications in emergency situations. Each intervention is evaluated and documented to determine the outcome of care and if additional interventions are required to achieve optimal health outcomes. The RN acts as a patient advocate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES PER AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY
  • Directly provides patient care and monitors the patient's response to labor, delivery and postpartum phases of pregnancy, assisting and education in breastfeeding as needed.
  • Promotes wellness for mother during pregnancy and after delivery through continuous education.
  • Provides education to mother about infant care.
  • Documents all events and education in the patient medical record utilizing computers.
  • Communicates patient's condition verbally and in writing to the physician and the nursing supervisor.
  • Assists other FBC staff in maintaining skills and learning new procedures and equipment.
  • Collaborates with nursery nurse in care of mother / baby couplet.
  • Assists physicians with procedures.
  • Assists nurse manager as requested.
  • Assists staff with emergencies in other nursing units when possible.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly and safe environment for all patients in the FBC unit.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision for reading medical records, monitors and other equipment; color vision to observe patient for changes, color of fluids; peripheral vision to observe surroundings while providing patient care; and ability to adjust focus while looking from patient to other areas.

Shift: 6 pm to 6 am = 36 hours per week.Weekends required, holidays potentially required. Overtime optional.
