Job summary

Hatch is seeking motivated students for a 4-month summer internship or 4/8/12-month co-op in its Advisory practice. You will assist in consulting engagements by collecting, analyzing, and presenting data to inform business decisions for Hatch’s clients.

Ideal candidates are adaptable, self-motivated, and capable of working independently or in teams, with strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to build relationships across the firm.

Qualifications

  • Fluent in English (written and verbal).
  • Currently enrolled in an Engineering, Science, Business, Commerce or Economics program with at least two years completed and in good standing.
  • Creative problem-solving ability.
  • Strong understanding of engineering or business fundamentals for developing business cases in metals, energy and infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with ability to research, filter and summarize complex content.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team with good interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated with good organizational skills.
  • Prior work terms or co-op experience is an asset.
  • Extracurricular involvement is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Deconstruct high-level information to identify underlying drivers and consolidate details for a holistic view.
  • Critically evaluate information from multiple sources and reconcile conflicts.
  • Develop or assist in cost models, financial models or business cases for projects for external clients and Hatch.
  • Communicate and collaborate with advisory and engineering teams to analyze information needs and deliver written reports, presentations, and verbal updates.
  • Collate and summarize information from existing data sources, workshops, surveys, and process descriptions.
  • Prepare cases and scenarios to assist analysts and consultants.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to analyze tradeoffs between objectives and performance.
  • Provide administrative support as needed.
  • Manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.

The Advisory business practice is Hatch's management consulting arm that helps clients in the mining, energy and infrastructure sectors solve their toughest business problems. We are entrepreneurs with a technical soul, approaching strategic problems with solutions grounded in deep technical expertise.

Hatch is currently looking for candidates to join the Advisory business practice for a 4-month summer internship or 4/8/12-month co-op term. Successful candidates will assist in consulting engagements by collecting, analyzing, and presenting data to inform business decisions for Hatch’s clients.

The successful candidate must be adaptable, highly self-motivated, have the ability to work both independently as well as in a team environment, and be able to build and maintain strong relationships through excellent verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively communicating and collaborating with team members from within advisory and the engineering business units to analyze information needs and deliver written reports, presentations, and verbal reports, as needed
  • Collating and summarizing information using data collected from existing data sources, document analysis, workshops, surveys, and business process descriptions
  • Preparing cases and scenarios to assist analysts and consultants
  • Collaborating with subject matter experts to analyze tradeoffs between planned objectives and business performance needs
  • Assisting with administrative support, as required
  • Successfully managing multiple initiatives simultaneously
Qualifications
  • Fluent in English, written and verbal
  • Currently enrolled in an Engineering, Science, Business, Commerce or Economics program at an accredited university (enrollment in a co-op program is an asset), with at least two years completed. Candidates must be in excellent academic standing
  • Creative problem-solving ability
  • Good understanding of engineering and/or business fundamentals as they apply to developing business cases for initiatives and projects in the metals, energy, and infrastructure industries
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, including the ability to research, filter, and clearly summarize complex content
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment with good interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated with good organizational skills
  • Prior work terms or co-op experience is considered an asset
  • Extracurricular involvement is considered an asset
