This opportunity involves assisting assigned departments and/or projects by performing basic engineering tasks aligned with standard post-secondary engineering curricula.

HNTB, with over 100 years of sustainable growth, is a leading engineering, architecture, and planning firm. Employee-owned, with more than 6,000 employees across 70+ offices nationwide, we serve clients in the rail and transportation industry with integrity, technical excellence, and a commitment to quality, on time and within budget. Our projects include Brightline (Miami, FL), Sound Transit’s University Link Light Rail Extension (Seattle, WA), Tappan Zee Bridge (Nyack, NY), and Levi’s Stadium (Santa Clara, CA).

Working on large-scale construction projects, a co-op engineer will collaborate across multiple disciplines under the guidance of senior engineers, gaining experience in contract document preparation for major projects. This includes designing track, roadway, civil, drainage, and structures, as well as exposure to environmental mitigation, power, signaling, utilities, OCS, and more. The rotation will involve working with different engineers on design development, construction sequencing, and contract documentation.

Aspects of the position include:

  1. Assisting in the preparation of design documents, such as track/highway alignments, drainage, structural designs, grading, and estimates.
  2. Learning basic transit and high-speed rail design and construction fundamentals, including staging.
  3. Participating in field visits or client meetings.
  4. Developing CAD drafting skills.
