Job summary

A community mental health organization in Cape Girardeau, MO, seeks a Co-Occurring Specialist to provide individual and group counseling in accordance with evidence-based practices.   • Document according to clinical policies and procedures, DMH, CARF, and any other federal or state program per agency standards.

Job Overview

The Integrated Treatment for Co-Occurring Disorders (ITCD) model is an evidence-based practice that improves the quality of life for people with severe mental illness and substance use disorders by combining mental health and substance use services. ITCD emphasizes that individuals achieve big changes in sobriety, symptom management, and independent living through a series of small, overlapping, incremental changes that occur over time. The Co-Occurring Specialist will provide individual and group counseling for substance use to clients enrolled in the ITCD program, ensuring the highest level of care is provided in compliance with Community Counseling Policies and Procedures and ITCD standards.

Essential Functions
  • Facilitate ITCD counseling and education groups.
  • Provide education to family members of ITCD consumers.
  • Offer individual counseling to ITCD clients.
  • Complete supplemental assessments for ITCD clients.
  • Make appropriate referrals.
  • Attend ITCD multi‑disciplinary team meetings.
  • Document according to clinical policies and procedures, DMH, CARF, and any other federal or state program per agency standards.
Non‑Essential Functions
  • Maintain compliance with all policy and procedures.
  • Complete all required training.
  • Work cooperatively with other departments and members of the community.
  • Participate in all required meetings as determined by supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Must meet the Division of Behavioral Health’s definition of Qualified Addiction Professional (QAP).

  • On the MO Credentialing Board, hold one of the following credentials: CADC, CRADC, CRAADC, CCJP, CCDP, CCDP‑D, RADC‑P, or RADC.
  • Alternatively, if you do not currently hold a listed credential, you must have either a Bachelor’s degree with at least 3 years of experience working with a substance‑use‑disorder population or a Master’s degree with at least 1 year of experience working with a substance‑use‑disorder population.

Must have reliable transportation, a continuous valid driver’s license, and proof of continuous auto insurance. Travel in own vehicle is required.
